Baby S was born ten days ago on February 20, 2014 at 12:49pm. Weighing in at 6lbs 7oz and being 19 1/4 inches long.
We are so in love. My first reaction when I saw her was that she looks exactly like E did when she was born. I feel so lucky to have two adorable little girls.
Baby S birth was scheduled for 9:30am on February 20, 2014. The days leading up to the birth were filled will excitement, nervousness, and giving E lots of love and attention. The days before I had my pre-OP appointment. The doctor estimated her to be 6-6.5lbs. She was pretty accurate. I gained a total of 23lbs this pregnancy, which was such a relief, although the last trimester was when I gained the most. On the 19th we spent the whole day with E, playing at the park and eating her favorite meal (chick-fil-a for lunch and steak for dinner). Trying to take in the fact that it wasn't going to be just the three of us anymore. That night I actually slept pretty well. Just the usual wake up to pee and the couple times I would check on E. I woke up at 5:30am because we had to be at the hospital at 7:30am. I did my hair and makeup and got E all dressed in her "Big Sister" scrubs.
Once we arrived at the hospital we went into L&D and checked in. I changed into my hospital gown and then my parents arrived. My IV was placed and I was given that god awful anti-acid drink you must have before surgery. The doctor came in and did and ultrasound to check position and then we met with the anestiologist. We were ready to go, everything was about to happen then all of sudden we for bumped because there was an emergency... Then another... Then one of the Laboring patients needed an epidural. We didn't end up going back until after noon. It was a long wait and it was dreadful because I was starving!!! Once we finally got back C was told to wait outside while I got my spinal. I was most nervous about this, for some reason. It stung but that was pretty much it.
Once C was called in they began. I don't remember feeling as much when I had E. maybe it's because I labored so long, I didn't pay attention. This time I felt lots of pressure and since she was so high up I kept feeling like I was holding my breathe because they had at least two doctors pushing so hard on my chest to get her out. It seemed like it took forever to get her out. She was finally born at 12:49pm. The 12 o clock hour seems to be popular in our family, C, E, S and I were all born within it. I heard the doctor say "wow that's a tiny baby" and heard her first little noises. When they showed her to us the first thing I said was "She looks just like E did". I could see them as they cleaned her up, she never really cried though. It turns out that she was having some issues breathing and she had fluid in her lungs so off to the NICU she went. C of course went with her. I did my best to stay calm, it was rough though because I was all alone. Once I got wheeled into the recovery room, my mom, dad and E were waiting for us. I had to tell them what was going on. I am sad because I didn't get to see Her first bath or catch her first cry on recording. Once I had spent an hour in recovery they wheeled me to see her. I got great news once I was up there, she was doing just fine and so she could come to the post partum room with us! Luckily C got everything on camera for us! I will have to post a timeline of photos of her birth here in the next few days, I am writing this post from my phone.
My parents had gone home with E while I was in recovery because we didn't know what was going to happen and we didn't want them waiting around. Once we got the good news they came to meet baby S. E wasn't too sure of what to think. She is still warming up to her. It is hard for her since she was the only one for all her life. She's always been the only little kid and the only one getting attention. Sometimes it's a struggle other times we do okay.
A couple days after the birth our photographer came to the hospital and got these adorable pictures of the girls.
Being a mommy to two, is a lot more challenging than I expected. Not because I don't have enough love, because I definitely do. I think my heart doubled in size when we had S. What is difficult is having enough time for the two of them. E is being such a trooper through it all, but it breaks my heart that I can hardly give her my undivided attention. I just hope she knows how much I truly love her and that she will always be my little girl. I can't wait for S to grow bigger and stronger so E can see the fun that having a sister will be!
